Critical: System Maintenance

IMPORTANT --- It is absolutely imperative that each Client have a local IT Administrator, or an Outside Agent, that is responsible on a daily, weekly, bi weekly or monthly basis, to ensure that your Network is up to date with Microsoft Updates, Security Updates, Disk Usage, Data Backup’s and any Maintenance that would be required. This message was included as part of the Reflex ‘Recommendations and Specifications Document’ originally supplied to all Clients at the time of implementation. This document also reminds us that Maintenance of Servers and Computers is sometimes forgotten or overlooked with the busyness of daily activity. But if a Server crashes or backups are not checked regularly and kept up to date… then the down time and/or loss of data for a company can be expensive, crippling, and even critical. Too often, while in the process of investigating a client support issue, Reflex discovers that a data backup for a client may not have been done for an extended period of time. Could you imagine the strain on your human resources pool if all work orders, invoices, and employee time records had to be rekeyed?
Routine maintenance of servers and computers is not a rigorous activity. The five items that must be checked are:

1) Microsoft Updates have been completed
2) Free space on all Hard Drives is adequate
3) Check event logs for warnings or critical errors and/or repair
4) Backups ( in particular…Reflex MSSQL Maintenance Backup of Databases ) ran successfully and Offsite Backups in place
5) UPS ( Uninterruptable Power Supply’s ) is in good order and working

Having someone assigned to and responsible for these duties WILL save you time, headaches, and money down the road.
